There’s an experiment that exposed a major flaw in AI vision models using nothing but duct tape.

Security researcher Joseph Thacker applied some duct tape to his fingers, stood in front of a $30 used webcam, and successfully tricked the AI into classifying his hand as having "no fingers." But as I watched this, something other than the hacking trick caught my attention.

Nowadays, many B2B platforms use AI to automatically categorize product images. In fact, I recently saw a case with a food exporter where their packaging material was misclassified into an entirely different category, causing them to be left out of search results entirely.
