Can You Use AI as a Black Box? When Not Knowing the Logic Costs You
Can AI tools be used as a black box? I faced this reality today. I used AI to generate a buyer list, but I couldn't explain why it produced those specific results. I couldn't verify it or trace where the errors originated. I just ignored it at first—but later on...
I once used AI to generate a buyer list, only to realize later that an entire target country was missing. 😅
This actually happened to us; the output looked professional enough, so we just assumed it was correct. It wasn't until later that we noticed key regions were completely absent.
⚠️ If you have ever made this mistake, save this post.
🔍 Since then, we changed one thing: We now explicitly define the target countries and industry classifications in the input, and we manually cross-check a few result samples. Just adding this single step significantly reduced omission errors.
🎯 The trap is that the more we use AI, the less we understand the underlying logic. Even just knowing "what kind of input creates what kind of output" allows you to see the scope of your own accountability.
