What is MoCRA?

MoCRA (Modernization of Cosmetics Regulation Act) is the U.S. cosmetics regulation law that will take effect on July 1, 2024. In simple terms, the U.S. cosmetics market has completely shifted from 'self-regulation' to 'FDA mandatory regulation.'

This is a major overhaul after 86 years since 1938. Now, companies and products must be registered with the FDA in order to sell cosmetics in the U.S.

MoCRA Compliance Checklist

MoCRA has six key obligations. Missing even one can lead to issues, so be sure to check carefully.

Small businesses may be exempt.

If your annual revenue is below $1,000,000 (approximately 1.3 billion KRW), some obligations are waived. However, not all obligations are exempt.

4 Steps to Register

You can register for MoCRA directly through the FDA Cosmetics Direct system. It may seem complicated, but you can follow the steps one by one.

Common Mistakes Made by K-Beauty Companies

Many K-beauty companies make the same mistakes during the MoCRA compliance process. Knowing this in advance can save you time and costs.
